The watch has 30 meters of water resistance.
Looking at the face of this watch one can see this is a simple, three-hand only timepiece with small seconds towards the 6 o’clock position. The hands are blued and baton style, and the center of the dial and small seconds area feature a guilloche pattern. The outer edges of the dial are a vertically brushed silver grey color. The Arabic numerals are black transferred and the watch has an overall art deco styling.
The case itself is high polished on the top and sides. This watch has a solid caseback, which as seen here and by default is high polished but makes a great spot for engraving. For those unfamiliar, this feature was designed to protect the watch’s crystal in polo matches. The case’s base has engine-turned patterns.
The crown has two positions and is not screw-down. In position zero the watch is wound.
Position one allows the time to be set. The watch does not feature hacking.
This model of Reverso comes on a Fagliano-designed medium-brown leather strap. The strap is of excellent execution and feels both robust and comfortable. It has a folded profile up near the lugs and relies on a steel pin-buckle to secure the strap to the wrist.
This watch’s movement is the caliber 822/2. It is a hand-wind only movement. The movement runs at 3 Hertz and features 19 jewels.
In terms of measured accuracy I used the Watch Accuracy Meter app on my cell phone to measure the watch in five different positions, getting an average loss of 7.6 seconds per day with a positional range of -20 seconds per day to +9 seconds per day.
My overall thoughts:
The positives:
Excellent finishing
Comfortable to wear
Offers something unique versus typical watches given the rectangular shape and reversing case
The negatives:
Not a strap monster (pretty much stuck with leather or possibly a bracelet)
Limited water resistance
Poor accuracy for the price-point
I really like the Reverso case design and, while historically a sort of sports watch, it really falls in the dress watch category for the modern era. I think the watch wears quite comfortably with its default strap, and while the 20 mm lug width means it would be easy to fit all sorts of straps on it I don’t think it’s going to really visually work well with much outside of leather, other than perhaps a bracelet. I imagine you can do all sorts of different leather straps easily.
While 30 meters of water resistance is reasonable for a dress watch I can’t help but wish it was at least 50 meters. While I don’t have any concerns washing my hands with this on I do consider the weather before I wear it and if I think I might get caught outside in heavy rain I elect another watch with a better water rating.
For me, the biggest complaint is the accuracy. An average loss of under 8 seconds per day is pretty accurate but at this price-point I typically see COSC certification levels of accuracy. I know many Reversos do not feature a seconds hand at all but given we have one here potential buyers might assume it will be regulated to COSC. Note JLC does not claim to go for COSC standards with this watch, that’s not what they are selling with this watch, so temper your expectations accordingly.
